Ashok kamte

SHAHEED ASHOK KAMTE

Ashok Kamte, a 1989 batch IPS officer, was the DCP, Zone 1, in Mumbai and was also the key officer in state police. He had also served as the commissioner of Solapur and was always known to be in the thick of action. 

Kamte was killed while fighting terrorists at Metro Cinema in the city along with encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar.

Hemant karkare


The chief of the Anti-Terrorist Squad
Hemant Karkare, Joint Commissioner of Police (administration) Mumbai Police as an officer of 1982 Indian Police Service batch, was posted in Chandrapur in 1991.

Karkare was with National Productivity Council and Hindustan Lever before joining Indian Police Service. Since 1985,

 Karkare has been posted at Nanded, Akola, Thane and Bhiwandi and finally Mumbai as a deputy commissioner of police in economic offense wing

 Karkare has also done a stint in the research and analysis wing – the country's external intelligence agency.


Karkare is B E, mechanical from Dr Vishveshvarayya Regional College of Engineering, Nagpur.
He is  highly developed artistic and aesthetic sense,has sculpted over 150 sculptures with driftwood

Hemant Karkare helped to solve the serial bomb blasts in Thane, Panvel and Vashi, and also helped in the investigation of the September 29, 2008 blast in Malegaon. Known for hisdiscipline and fair investigation tactics, he encouraged his officers to "play fair," stating, "We should do our job and it is for thecourt to decide.”


Karkare, a 1982 batch IPS officer, became the head of ATS in January this year following his return to the state cadre after serving seven years in Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) in Austria. One of the brightest officers, Karkare had solved the serial bomb blasts in Thane, Vashi and Panvel and was also credited for the stunning revelations in the investigation of the September 29 blast in Malegaon,Incidentally, the Pune ATS on November 26 reportedly received phone calls threatening to blow up the residence of Karkare "within a couple of days". In his last interview to NDTV on Wednesday, he referred to getting the custody of Malegaon blast accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, and said "police custody would have helped investigations to proceed faster but still we will see how best to deal with it in a legal way". 

Hemant Karkare was known for fair investigation 
He was killed in November 2008 while leading an offensive against terrorists at the Taj Hotel,He was hit by three bullets in his chest.
